The Steps to Applying for Financial Aid for College
#1. Complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)! Application opens October 1.
FAFSA application required for Cal Grants, Federal Work Study, Federal College Loans, California Middle Class Scholarship, and is required by many schools for students to be eligible for merit scholarships. Look for college specific grants and scholarships. Check out the process and deadlines and apply. Know that financial aid application deadlines often occur before you know if you have been accepted to that school. Know that many colleges require that the student has submitted the FAFSA in order to be considered for any financial aid, including merit scholarships.
